A Prospect Heights Art Deco Galley
A narrow apartment galley with black laminate and failing tile — modernized inside its existing footprint.

BeforeAfter- The job
- Chipped white doors on swollen cabinet boxes, black laminate countertops lifting at every join, cracked wall tile, and lino that had given up at the edges. In an apartment, moving any of it means moving services.
- What we did
- New handleless millwork in a warm pale oak with matching overheads, a full-length countertop returning under the window, vertical-stack backsplash tile, a single deep sink with matte black mixer, integrated task lighting under both runs, and wood-look flooring. Rewired and replumbed in place; the gas cooktop and oven were retained.
- Timeline
- Five weeks
- The result
- A galley that now reads twice as wide as it measures — with the window, the doorway and the appliances all exactly where the building put them. The kitchen was part of a fixed-price apartment project that also took in the bathroom, a full rewire and replumb, and the painting.
