Opening Up a Park Slope Living Room

Patched plaster, a bricked-up fireplace and a bare bulb — rebuilt into a millwork wall, with the family's own sofa never leaving the room.

The job
A blocked chimney breast in raw render, unfinished plaster where a wall had been taken out years earlier, a single pendant on a bare flex, and a floor that stopped and started at every doorway.
What we did
A full-height plaster media wall with a linear inset fire and a run of oak base millwork, square-set ceiling with recessed lighting, curtains hung to the ceiling across the full width of the rear doors, and engineered oak laid the length of the room.
Timeline
Five weeks
The result
Same sofa, same coffee table, same stained glass above the doors. The owners bought nothing — the room simply got finished.
